What Is a YouTube Copyright Strike?
A copyright strike is issued when a rights holder files a legal removal request and YouTube validates it. It’s a different mechanism entirely from a Content ID claim, and the two are often confused.

What Is YouTube Content ID?
Content ID is YouTube’s automated copyright-matching system. Every video uploaded to the platform is scanned against a reference database of audio, video, and image files submitted by rights holders, and a match generates a Content ID claim. A Content ID claim is not a copyright strike, and confusing the two is the single biggest source of creator panic on this topic.

What Is the YouTube Community Tab?
The Community Tab, which was officially renamed to “Posts” in YouTube Studio in early 2025 (still “Community” on the viewer end, though), is a social-feed feature on YouTube channels. What Are Monetized Playbacks on YouTube?
Not every view on YouTube earns money. A monetized playback is the subset of views that actually did, aka the ones where at least one ad was shown. The gap between total views and monetized playbacks is one of the main reasons RPM reads so much lower than CPM, and it’s a metric most creators never check directly.

What Is YouTube Watch Time?
Watch time is the total number of minutes viewers have spent watching a video or channel. It's a core input into YouTube's recommendation system and the metric behind one of the two paths into full monetization: the 4,000-hour threshold for the YouTube Partner Program.

What Is the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)? Requirements & Benefits
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is YouTube’s official monetization gateway, the only way a channel earns money directly from the platform. A channel with 1M subs that hasn’t been accepted into YPP earns $0 from YouTube, regardless of view count. Practically everything on the platform: ad revenue, memberships, Super Chat, Shopping, sits behind this one program.
