Over the past few months, YouTube and TikTok have introduced some interesting updates. Some of these updates are cosmetic, while others fundamentally reshape how the platform works and what the future holds for them. YouTube has added updates to Shorts, implemented some changes to Comments, and added much more fun functionality! Let’s break down every update!
Finally Here: YouTube Recap
After years and years of asking, YouTube had finally launched its first-ever YouTube Recap! Those familiar with Spotify Wrapped know the deal. So, what does the Recap Show?
- Top channels and topics
- Viewing “eras” (how your interests evolved)
- Personality-style insights based on watch behavior
- Up to 12 dynamic cards, personalized per user
Recap is already available in North America, and it rolls out slowly, country by country. It’s accessible via the homepage, ‘you’ tab, or a mobile device.
Channel Guidelines for Communities
Now, one of the very interesting updates for creators on YouTube is channel guidelines for communities. How does it work? Creators can now set official rules for:
- Comments
- Live chat
- Community posts
All that from the comfort of your YouTube Studio! All you have to do is
- Go to Settings
- Click Community moderation
- and set the channel guidelines in place.
These rules are shown to users before they leave their first comment.
Nano Banana Integration (Community Posts)
Speaking of another Community improvement. YouTube has integrated Nano Banana, an AI image creation and editing tool, directly into Community Posts. For now, it’s available only in the USA, Canada, India, and Australia.
To use it, you need to be 18 and older. Creators can now generate and edit images without leaving YouTube, making Community posting faster and more visual.
YouTube Shorts Are Coming to TV
YouTube Shorts are officially rolling out to TV screens. It sounds like a simple enough thing to do, right? But the execution was a bit tricky. So, why did it take YouTube so long to implement? Well, originally, Shorts were built as vertical, mobile-first, swipe-based entertainment.
And TV is more of a horizontal, shared, and remote-controlled experience. So, after a lot of research, this is how the final experience looks:
- One Short at a time
- Manual navigation via remote
- Side panels
- Color-sampled blurred backgrounds to fill space
TV is YouTube’s fastest-growing surface. Which is why many creators should seriously consider a TV approach.
Carousel Posts Inside Shorts (Testing)
That’s not all for Shorts! YouTube is testing static image carousels inside the Shorts feed. So far, it looks like this:
- Up to 10 images per post
- Appears directly in the Shorts experience

AI Clip Suggestions for Podcasts
YouTube Studio now suggests key moments from podcast uploads that can be turned into clips.
Where to find it:
- Studio → Content → Podcasts → Suggested Clips
This is YouTube automating what editors have been doing manually for years, spotting highlight moments that are likely to perform well as Shorts.
Voice Replies to Comments (Now Live)
Moving right onto the changes to Comments. And the first one is voice replies. Creators can now reply to comments using their own voice directly from the YouTube mobile app.
How it works:
- Open the YouTube App
- Find a comment under your video
- Tap “Reply”
- Select the voice icon
- Record up to 30 seconds
Comment Summaries in Studio Mobile
This is an additional feature added in the latest updates to YouTube. YouTube Studio Mobile now shows AI-generated summaries of top comments on a video.
How to access:
- Studio App
- Select a video
- Go to Comments → Summary
This feature is rolling out gradually.
Better Control Over Auto-Translations
Viewers now have more control over how YouTube auto-translates content, including audio dubbing, titles, descriptions, and subtitles.
How viewers adjust it:
- Settings → Language
- Translation languages
- Select priority languages
If the original video language matches one of the selected priority languages, auto-translation turns off automatically.
YouTube Create on iPhone (Coming Soon)
YouTube’s AI-powered video editor (YouTube Create) is currently in beta on Android. It’s not yet available on iOS, but expected to be soon.
What it does:
- AI-assisted editing
- Auto-clipping
- Music and effect suggestions
- Short-form friendly workflows
Once it hits iPhone, this becomes YouTube’s direct response to CapCut, just fully platform-aligned.
Shared Collection on TikTok
TikTok is doubling down on connection and co-discovery, especially during the holidays. Shared Collection allows friends or family to:
- Save videos into shared folders
- Organize ideas (travel, gifts, recipes, learning)
- Keep collections private or make them public
Requirements:
- Both users must follow each other
- Available globally for users 16+
Shared Feed
Shared Feed is one of TikTok’s most interesting updates and is an extension of the Shared Collection feature.
- Two users get a daily feed of 15 videos
- Feed is curated based on both users’ interests
- Lives inside DMs
- Includes shared metrics (likes, overlaps)
This is TikTok experimenting with micro-algorithms, personalized not for one person, but for several. The feature is rolling out globally in the coming months.
Greeting Cards in DMs
TikTok is also adding animated greeting cards inside private messages. You can add custom text and festive visuals to it.
The Bigger Picture for Creators
Taken together, these updates tell us a few things clearly:
- YouTube is making a bigger bet on TV screens.
It’s obvious that, since the popularity of ‘the living room experience’ is growing, the biggest entertainment platform would want to tap into those viewers. - Platforms are attempting to get into the trend of ‘family viewing’.
- AI is becoming an integral part of many social media platforms.
- YouTube is prioritizing creators’ safety and experience.
At AIR, we follow platform changes closely and turn them into practical strategies for creators. What to adopt, what to ignore, and what actually moves performance.
