Not Sure Which Languages to Choose?

YouTube audio tracks work much better this year, and our partners proved it! This case is about the kids YouTube channel we have worked with for years.

  • Their English track already had 291 million+ views. Massive with a capital M.
  • Then came the dubbed versions, adding another 125.5 million on top.

That’s over 400 million reasons to take this seriously.

YouTube channle stats with over 416 million views

Let’s walk through what we did to make that happen.

It Started With 5 Videos. 11 Languages. One Question.

Back in November 2024, the AIR team kicked off localization for  this channel with:

  • 5 videos
  • 11 languages — Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hindi, and Indonesian.

The question was simple: what sticks?

We used the ratio of “Views by Country” to “Audio Track Enabled” to spot demand. Let the data decide.

Four languages pulled ahead fast:

→ Spanish
→ Arabic
→ Indonesian
→ Portuguese

Then Japanese and Korean climbed the ranks — not quite as dominant, but enough to lock them in as core dubbing languages.

That gave us a dubbing lineup of 6, with subtitles still rolling in all 11.

Why subs? Reach. Not every region has strong dubbed retention, but good subs still boost accessibility, discovery, and watch time. You cover more ground, at lower cost.

The Steps That Took Them to 125 Million Extra Views

Once the test was done, we locked in the strategy and ran it. Here’s what we did:

Step 1: Translate Every Premiere

Every new upload dropped with dubbed tracks already in place. No lag. Just straight into the algorithm’s radar. That’s how you get traction early and globally.

Step 2: Back Catalog, Fully Localized

You dub a premiere, viewers show up, love it... but if there’s nothing else in their language, they bounce. Our job was to prevent that. Before the next premiere, we dropped 70% of their back catalog in all 6 dubbed languages.

February 14 was a big upload. 70% of the catalog + a premiere with full dubbing.

Then It Took Off

YouTube picked it up. Traffic rolled in from “Suggested Videos.” Then came the “Browse Features” boost where the algorithm keeps feeding content to users who are stuck around.

The result?

  • 125.5 million views in just 5 months
  • Over 4 million views per video
  • Dubbed audio tracks now pulling more than 30% of total views
  • +45 million subs over a year

That’s the strategy in action. New videos need to drop with dubbed audio tracks. That’s how you get discovered. But if you want to keep that audience, the back catalog better be translated too.

Views Are Cool. Retention’s Cooler.

Here’s what made us say ‘hell yes’ here — the dubbed versions outperformed the English originals in average view duration.

That’s your straight answer to the AI vs. human dubbing debate.

Average view duration is one of YouTube’s core metrics. And we’ve seen AI dubs tank it by 5x. Human dubs though? They can outperform the original.

Look at the stats.

Average View Duration (by audio track):

  • English: 6:26
  • Spanish: 8:24
  • Arabic: 6:46
  • Russian: 7:40
  • Indonesian: 7:12
  • Portuguese: 7:59

Higher retention. Higher interest. Because the dubs sounded right. Real voices. Real localization.
