YouTube's been rolling out multi-language tools fast. Auto-dubbing now supports 11 new languages, bringing the total to 30. Multi-language audio tracks are everywhere. Even thumbnails just got a multilingual upgrade.

That’s created a lot of FOMO. And that pressure's not wrong.

The earlier you start translating your content, the better shot you have. We’ve seen channels blow up — like, 100 million extra views blow up — by localizing their content early.

Here's what we saw.

Brave Wilderness Case: AI Dubs Tanking Watch Time

This channel is a beast — Guinness Records, massive subs, global presence. We helped them launch 9 fully dubbed channels using pro voice actors. They pulled in 135K new subs and 27.2 million views.

Then YouTube launched auto-dubbing. So we tested it on one of the audio-tacks on their Spanish channel.

Here’s what happened when we stacked all dubbing styles side-by-side:

• Spanish: 5:19 (pro dubbing)
• Portuguese: 5:01 (pro dubbing)
• Italian: 4:23 (pro dubbing)
• French: 3:40 (pro dubbing)
• Bulgarian: 3:51 (pro dubbing)
• English: 1:22 (AI dub)

That’s a 4x–5x drop in average view duration when switching from pro dubbing to AI. The difference is night and day.

AI Dubbing Cut Retention by 5x for Kids Channel

Another AIR partner tested AI dubbing on their English track for an Italian-speaking kids channel that already had over 5 million views.

The numbers?

• Pro dubbing: 5–6 minute average view duration
• AI dubbing: 0:54

Again, a 5x drop.

Plus, when AI-dubbed tracks start pulling down the average view duration on your main channel, it can send the wrong signals to the algorithm.

From 7 Minutes to 43 Seconds — The Cost of AI Dubbing

This channel has over 10 localized versions. On their Serbian channel, they tested AI dubbing for an English track.

Results by language:

• Serbian (pro dub): 7:13
• German (pro dub): 5:51
• English (AI dub): 0:43

With AI dubbing, average view duration fell off a cliff.

So Is AI Dubbing Useless? Not Exactly

AI dubbing is a good test balloon. But if you want views, subs, and actual retention, you need real voices.

If you go the freelance route, make sure your voice actors:

• Can work with AI tools (voice cloning, enhancement, etc.)
• Have a strong portfolio
• Understand your niche and can localize your delivery
