What do you do when your first-ever ad campaign experience goes sideways? “What’s next? What now?” Well, first, giving up is not an option! So, how do you recover after an unsuccessful ad campaign that drops your views, and how do you gain trust again? With an example!
Every creator knows how frustrating it is when things don’t go as planned, especially after you put time and money into it. For one European kids’ channel, that exact scenario came with a lot of frustration attached.
Our partner had previously run a paid promotion campaign only to see their views drop afterward. Not exactly the result a content creator would hope for, that’s putting it lightly.

So, when they reached out to our team, they were understandably cautious. The goal this time was simple enough: make the next campaign actually work.
Their First YouTube Ads Campain Flopped
Before coming to us, the creator had a negative experience with ad campaigns (the views fell sharply, engagement dropped, and their confidence in paid campaigns took a hit). They needed a good strategy and the rebuilding of performance/trust.
We were given a relatively simple goal and a budget of $1000. So we had to approach the task with utmost caution and responsibility. Failure wasn’t an option.
How to Run Ads on YouTube the Right Way?
All cases and all work start with a full content audit. Instead of promoting random videos, we focused on data. The video with the strongest retention rate at that time (54%) became the core of our campaign. What else did we do?
- Built a custom audience made of smaller channels
- Addressed the visuals and how they can be improved to attract the viewer
We have built a custom audience made of smaller channels within the same niche to make sure that the traffic comes from genuinely interested viewers rather than broad, low-quality impressions.
At the same time, we addressed a small content issue: the visuals of certain elements. For example, our partner had brilliant thumbnails, but the animated parts looked a bit out of place, foreign, and overly artificial, which was affecting viewer immersion. So, we prepared a detailed guide on improving post-production quality and offered feedback on editing and how to make it look more visually appealing.
The campaign itself launched on May 29 and ran until June 19. From the very start, we saw the organic rise alongside the paid campaign. Even after the promotion ended, viewership remained higher than before.
The Results: + 3.7 Million Views
Over the two months following the campaign, we saw the following amazing results:
- Channel revenue nearly tripled compared to the previous period.
- Views jumped from 1.3 million → 5 million.

- Recommended traffic soared from 1.2 million → 3.7 million.

That way, the creator didn’t just regain confidence in the paid ad campaigns, but they gained legitimate proof that data-driven advertising works wonders when done with the right strategy in mind.
